And actor Akshay Kumar feels that sanitary pads should not be tax-free, rather free for women. While promoting the movie in Pune, the 50-year-old-actor said, “Women are going for tax-free sanitary, but I say it should be completely free. Quirky posters, interesting trailer, and some soulful songs have already made fans really curious about the movie. The movie written and directed by R. Balki also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. And also there is a cameo appearance by Amitabh Bachchan. 625043-padman
The Movie is all set to release on January 25 and will clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat, which stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the pivotal roles. The film Padman is based on “The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land”, a short story from Twinkle Khanna’s book, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, which is inspired from the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a Tamil Nadu-based social activist who revolutionized the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost sanitary napkins machine. Pad Man was envisioned to an be awareness film without focusing too much at the commercial aspect. The producers’ main agenda was to reach out to a wide audience to create awareness and eradicate the superstitions surrounding sanitary pads that’s prevalent and practiced in India till today. Akshay Kumar plays Arunachalam Muruganantham, also known as “India’s Menstrual Man”.
