96 is a 2018 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles.

The film is written and directed by C. Prem Kumar who earlier handled the cinematography for Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, and its bankrolled by Nandagopal of Madras Enterprises. The music for the film is composed by Govind Menon, vocalist and violinist of the band Thaikkudam Bridge. N. Shanmuga Sundaram is doing the cinematography.
K. Ramachandran (Vijay Sethupathi) is a middle aged, free spirited travel photographer who, upon visiting his childhood town of Thanjavur and his old school, gets nostalgic and puts forth an idea to conduct a reunion for their class, the class of ’96.

2 months later at the reunion, along with his old friends, Ramachandran’s high school sweetheart S. Janaki (Trisha Krishnan) also turns up; creating moments of awkwardness and unresolved tension between the duo.

The couple takes a journey back in time, remembering the sweet and bitter moments that took place 22 years prior; when the couple’s love strengthened and somewhere in between, disappeared mysteriously. They share a lot of things which happened during this 22 years; all in one night. It turns out that Janaki has married and has a daughter. While Ram remains single. Janaki requests Ram to get married. Also it is revealed, why the duo were not meant to be til the last.

The last scene of the movie shows, Janaki departing to Singapore and Ram remaining at his residency with all the memories he has collected over the years of his school days and the dress Janaki wore during the reunion
