Mammootty’s character Kaatalan Porinju is a real-life character

It was already reported that Mammootty will be playing a character named Kaatalan Porinju in his upcoming movie. It has been a while since Mammootty played a real-life character. His next such avatar in Kaatalan Porinju will have enough of action, emotions, and dramatic elements to please the audience and die-hard fans alike, says its filmmaker Tom Emmatty, who had earlier directed Oru Mexican Aparatha. 

The director says, “Mammukka’s character is named Kaatalan Porinju, who was well known in the Thrissur market in the 1980s. The real person was a larger than life character and some of the incidents in his life are stranger than fiction.”The movie will be a “mass action film that will have a lot of realistic elements as well”, says the director, adding that the main locations will be Thrissur city and market, and “some places in the city that still retain the charm of the 80s”. 
“Mammukka really liked the character,” Tom says. “He has a lot of projects lined up but said he will take a call as soon as the script is complete. As it’s based on a real-life character, we have to finish the research too before penning the script.” Mammootty’s schedule is packed for most of the year with projects such as Maamaankam, Abrahaminte Santhathikal, Big B sequel and Basil Thomas’ next. The actor also has Streetlights, Parole, Peranbu, Oru Kuttanadan Blog, etc…as his upcoming movies. 

His bilingual movie Streetlights directed by Cinematographer turned director Shamdat Sainudeen will hit theatres on January 26th along with Pranav Mohanlal’s debut movie as a hero ‘Aadhi’ directed by Jeethu Joseph. Ajai Vasudev movie Masterpiece was the last release of Mammootty. Mamankam and Kunjali Marakkar are the upcoming historic movies of the actor.
