Rana Daggubati visits Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple as part of Marthanda Varma Movie!

It was already reported that Bahubali star Rana Daggubati will be next seen as Marthanda Varma and the actor is making his Malayalam debut with the movie Marthanda Varma: The King of Travancore. And now as part of the film’s journey, the actor visited the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

The actor who shot to fame after his role in Baahubali will play the lead role of Marthanda Varma in the film which will be directed by ace director K Madhu. The Telugu superstar’s visit to Kerala was also to check out the various locations of the movie and also for script discussions, says the movie’s scriptwriter Robin Thirumala. “As he would be playing Marthanda Varma, Rana wanted to visit these places to learn more about the character as well,” he says. Director K Madhu says, “The idea of making the film started at the temple, and that’s why we wanted everything to begin from there.”
Rana started his day visiting the temple and seeking the deity’s blessings and after that went to the palace to meet the royal family including Pooyam Thirunal Gauri Parvathi Bhai and Adithya Varma, says the filmmaker. Expressing his delight at being cast for the role of Marthanda Varma, the actor said, “It is a blessing to be part of a story like this. I feel very happy and blessed today,” he said after the temple visit. He was presented with a book that chronicled the life history of Marthanda Varma by the members of the family.

The team is currently busy with the pre-production of the movie, which will go on floors this year. When asked about the language being new to Rana, Madhu says, “I believe that there is no language when it comes to acting. There is no difference in the expressions and emotions one portrays whatever the language is and thus, I am sure it wouldn’t be a problem for an actor like him.”

The prime focus of the film will be how Marthanda Varma is the first Asian king to defeat a foreign force in a war at sea. He and his armies crushed the Dutch in the Battle of Colachel in 1741.Peter Hein will choreograph the stunts for the film while Oscar winner Resul Pookutty will handle the sound department. M M Keeravani, who composed the music for Baahubali, has been roped in as music composer for the period film.
