Superstar Rajinikanth met DMK leader M Karunanidhi

Superstar Rajinikanth met DMK chief M Karunanidhi at his residence recently, triggering a storm of speculation that a new alliance could be in the making. As he left his home in Poes Garden, Rajinikanth told reporters his visit to the veteran leader’s home would be a courtesy call. 

The actor recently announced about his political entry. When asked about his meeting with Karunanidhi, Rajinikanth told the media, “He is the senior-most politician in the country. I respect him a lot. We have a very good friendship. I took his blessings as I am entering politics. I am feeling very happy after meeting him.” He denied saying anything to Stalin, who said that Rajinikanth had asked Karunanidhi for his blessings to start a party.It was Rajinikanth’s first meeting with any political leader after announcing his decision to get into politics that he hopes, would be the starting point of “a political revolution” in the “historic” state of Tamil Nadu. 
With the AIADMK riven by the EPS-OPS faction and TTV Dhinakaran, DMK could be looking to come back into prominence by aligning with the mass movie star. But a political overture by Rajinikanth this time could be very different from 1996, when he campaigned for Karunanidhi, who had aligned with the Tamil Maanila Congress against J. Jayalalithaa. 

Though the superstar has already made it clear that he will not support any political party, including the DMK, he has always maintained a cordial relationship with Karunanidhi, unlike Amma. Rajinikanth announced his political debut on Sunday. Within days, thousands have signed up to be part of his new movement on a website and a mobile app.The Kollywood legend, who has said he’ll “push for spiritual politics without caste or religious leanings,” intends to contest in the next Tamil Nadu assembly election.
