Mammootty’s Peranbu Movie to Premiere At Rotterdam Film Festival

Mammootty’s upcoming bilingual movie Peranbu is all set for its premiere at the prestigious Rotterdam International Film Festival. 

Peranbu, also titled Resurrection, is an upcoming bilingual drama film written and directed by Ram and produced by P. L. Thenappan. The film features Mammootty, Tamil actress Anjali and Thanga Meenkal fame Sadhana in the lead roles. The film also introduced Anjali Ameer, a transsexual woman from Kerala. 

The songs will be written by lyricist and poet Vairamuthu. The movie was earlier expected to hit theatres for Diwali. However, there has been no announcement regarding the release from the part of the makers yet. In Peranbu, Mammootty plays a role of a middle-class father working as a taxi driver abroad. While in Tamil the film is called Peranbu, the filmmakers are yet to decide the title for the Malayalam version. 

But latest we hear, Peranbu is all set for its premiere at the prestigious Rotterdam International Film Festival which is going to take place from January 24 to February 2. The festival will showcase the best of world cinema in four sections: Bright Future, Voices, Deep Focus and Perspectives. However, the confirmed list of films that will be screened at IFFR website does not consist of Peranbu as yet. 

Peranbu is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Ram. Ram began negotiations with Mammootty to star in his film during early 2015 and the pair agreed to work together by February 2016. Anjali was signed on to appear in the film. Sadhana, the child artiste from Ram’s Thanga Meengal (2013), was also cast in the film. Anjali Ameer, a transgender Malayali model, was also selected to portray one of the leading female roles in the film. Masterpiece is the recent release of Mammootty.
