Dhanush to star in Tamil version of Akshay Kumar’s Padman?

Recent reports say that Bollywood movie Padman starring Akshay Kumar is being remade in Tamil, and actor Dhanush will reprise the role of Akshay Kumar in Tamil as per latest reports. The rumors are that the Tamil version of Padman featuring Dhanush in the lead role playing the real-life character Muruganantham will be produced By Colombia Pictures who bankrolled for Padman. 

Padman featuring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in the lead roles was directed by R Balki. Akshay Kumar is setting the box office cash registers ringing with Padman, the story of Tamil Nadu’s Arunachalam Muruganantham, who revolutionized low-cost sanitary napkins for women. As per the figures that have come in since its release on February 9 till Monday – the film has made Rs 45.92 crore (India) and Rs 14.84 crore in the overseas market. 
There is no news about the female lead(s) for the Tamil Version as yet and no official confirmation as yet. However, the possibility looks promising. After all, Padman is a story that deserves to be taken to as many people as possible so that it can change those many mindsets and lives of women. 

Since Dhanush has his plate full right now – with his schedule being packed with films like Maari 2, Hollywood debut The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir and Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta, he may give a nod to Padman and make an official confirmation only once he is free of his current commitments. 

Akshay’s Padman is based on his wife Twinkle Khanna’s book – The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad and it is inspired by the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham. More details about the Tamil version will be soon out and we can wait for an official confirmation about the project.
