Kerala Blasters lock horns with Athletico de Kolkata in high voltage ISL final.
Kochi is bursting at the seams with the arrival of hordes of frenzied fans of Kerala Blasters deluging the city. It is the big day, the big final and it cant get any bigger or better than this. Kerala Blasters couldnt have asked for a better script and playing in front of the rampaging fans for their first ISL title is indeed a huge motivation. The Kolkata outfit which won the inaugural edition of ISL wont be overawed by the huge crowd and being the only side to beat the Blasters at home this season, they would be bristling with confidence.
Kerala Blasters would who stuttered in the beginning of this season is largely a team that banks on its compact defence. With Aaron Hughes and Jhinghan patrolling the defence, Kolkata will find it difficult to break free with their fluid attacking game. The dangerous Ian Hume will find the going tough, but even a slight error in the defence could prove costly for the Kochi based outfit. Kolkata proved that they have a doughty defence by holding a strong Mumbai team to a goalless draw away at Mumbai in the second leg semifinal.
On paper there is little to choose between the two sides, but the frenzied home support could spur the Blasters to punch above their weight. And it should be a tactical battle and both teams would be wary of opening up too much. A high stakes final could muffle the flair of both the teams. Blasters will be keen to take revenge for the heartbreaking loss they suffered at the hands of Athletico de Kolkata in the final of the inaugural edition at Kolkata. And the most consistent team in ISL history would be looking to spoil the party of the Kerala team by prevailing at Kochi. All road leads to the gigantic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi.
